It's Caterpillar season around here and for J and me it's like Christmas every day!! There are dozens of these guys falling from the trees and crawling all over everything in our yard. Justin will spend his afternoons rescuing them from the ground and putting them into the trees and bushes and I will spend my afternoons photographing it all... It's the first sign for us that summer is truly here :)

Not Sleeping with The Yankees
I don't sleep... Anyone who follows my twitter or facebook knows on any given morning around 2 or 3 I may be posting God only knows what... It's not that I don't try, really, I try! I've tried meditation, ambien, alcohol, running myself to absolute exhaustion and still when I lay down at night I just can't turn off... my brain seems to think this is it's personal time to obsess over trivial, crazy, mundane things...
The last few nights it's been baseball...yes..baseball.... I'm not a huge baseball fan but I LOVE the yankees!! I will subscribe to MLB.tv every year just to watch them play... why you ask... I don't even really know.. I just love to watch these guys play, it's like watching the last real baseball "family" play... These guys aren't just committed to the game they are committed to the team, to each other!
So I heard a few days ago that Pettitte is retiring, to me honestly this wasn't a big surprise even when he could pitch last year he didn't seem to really want to be there... but this got me thinking about this years roster... pitchers were an issue last year with pettitte hurt and burnett being his usual douchebag self there really wasn't a pitcher we could depend on... I personally like Chamberlain.. maybe because I always hear a Jamaican guy scream "JOBA" in my head every time he comes out, maybe not, I don't try to understand the workings of my mind I just go with it... My husband on the other hand moans and groans every time the guys feet hit the field... Again I don't even pretend to understand why.. when I ask he just says he's not consistent... umm.. have you met the burnetts? ya know dead on and his twin brother can't hit the broad side of a barn??? just saying... but as far as pitchers go I'm not too worried, Rivera always closes things up nice and tidy like... Oh and let's not forget C.C. no problems there
But then my mind won't stop wondering what else is new, and after fighting myself for what feels like an hour I roll over grab the iPhone and surf on over to check out the roster... I notice right away there's a third catcher on the roster and my heart sinks.. now the guy doesn't even have a number yet and I'm not too worried but then it carries on over into my favorite player on the team Jorge Posada...mmmmm Jorge... wait where was I?.... oh yeah..ahem.... so Jorge is one of the fellas he's been around forever and he's been catching for most of his career... he's almost 40 now and even though that is in no way shape or form old, that's allot of years playing catcher... that's allot to ask of any body.. catching isn't just rough on your throwing arm or your knees it's rough on everything, I don't care how fit you are that's a position that will wear you the heck out!! Posada is for the most part in great shape, but I'm wondering if he's about ready to move on up and start preparing to take Girardi's place (we all know it's coming)... I don't know if I can handle watching cervelli catch for most of a season... he to me is like Chamberlain to my husband.. his feet hit the dirt and the inning is shit for me... I spend the entire inning screaming at him to talk to his pitcher!!! Communicate asshat!!! He's not a terrible player he's just not my dish of gelato...
So after my brain obsesses about these guys over and over back and fourth it moves on to the rest of the guys... this obsession is slightly less time consuming... well aside from a slight pause for Swisher...mmmmm Swisher... he's not going anywhere... he'll continue knocking them out of the park and being the poster boy for everything a right fielder should be...
Newbies... last year there were two guys that stood out to me Colin Curtis who holy hell batman stepped up to the plate and fit right in everywhere that they put this guys last year he did well... Can't wait to see more from him this year... Ramiro Pena, again this was a guy who they needed last minute and he jumped in like it was his job..he could really do no wrong...
Jeter resigned this year..which really did anyone expect otherwise?? He's one of the fellas... he's been around forever and I think he'll stay around forever... He plays a good honest game and he makes things happen... not much else needs to be said about this guy!! :)
Asshat Rodriguez will be knocking them out of the park again this year... I don't know about this guy.. Some days I like him most days I'm just unsure...something I can't put my finger on... He plays a great game but for me he's just generic...
Cano is just another one of those guys I think can do no wrong... he's pretty much great no matter what you ask of him...
Teixeira has got to be in my top 5 players! I love this guy!! I just wanna hug him, he's so cute and lovable and he plays first base like nobody's business!! maybe the best glove on the field!! Certainly the best... um... back end!!! Sorry I know that's terrible but we call him bubble butt Teixeira in this house!! :) But seriously this guy plays with his heart and it's obvious every time he's on the field... He has that unmistakable batting stance like he's winding up to hit and when he's playing the base he is steady rocking side to side.. I honestly think if he stood still for 3 seconds he'd explode!!
Gardner is from SC woot woot so of course he gets my love, but not undeserving! This guy is fast and sneaky and plays balls to the wall every time! However I swear when he takes off his hat/helmet I can't figure out who he is!! It's like the Superman/Clark Kent effect... it's weird I just can't pick this guy from Joe Schmoe without a lid on!
So there ya have it... This is why I don't sleep... well this week anyway! Next week it'll be something else.... Maybe I'll blog about it...
